From the invisible city to the open city: Innovation Lab in Tourism
How can we renew tourism practices? What experiences do we know about alternative tourism? How can we make Madrid a more accessible city? These were some of the questions that haunted last summer the Tourism Innovation Lab, a space for experimentation that we launched in Medialab Prado. Two participatory workshops with travellers, visitors, alternative tourism companies and some institutions served as a first step towards prototyping the laboratory, The project is now continuing with research on learning through travel and the formation of communities.
On 14 May, we presented the results of the workshops with the community involved. The first session was devoted to a diagnosis of the “.“The Invisible City”. The aim was to identify the aspects that we consider authentic and unique to the city of Madrid, but which are not obvious to most visitors. In the second session we came up with itineraries towards “.“The Open City”The "Madrid City Council", that is to say, the lines of work, instruments or tools to make Madrid a more accessible city.
The next step is to carry out a proposal for continuity to further research on innovation in tourism, the conceptualisation of travel, mechanisms of integration and exchange between stable and transient populations, economic experiences linked to alternative tourism and relevant institutions.
